Finding a balance during holiday season- giving employees adequate time off

At the end of every year, your employees will be geared up to go on holiday- as is expected of them. While the majority of your employees will expect to have time off around Christmas and Thanksgiving, those companies who have a more diverse workforce have to accommodate employees from other faiths and beliefs as well.

Though these employees don’t go on leave at the end of the year, they also have their annual festivals which they expect to celebrate. Holiday season always poses a major problem to employers and managers, who cannot compromise on their work quality, but must also be fair to their employees.

Through employee vacation tracking systems, finding a balance between giving time off but maintaining work deadlines has become achievable. Here’s how:

Employees are expected to apply for leave

One of the main benefits of such systems is how they offer employees the option of using the system to apply for leave. Conventional methods of leave application were long and tedious, which led to difficulties in applying for leave, which then leads to a greater number of unplanned leaves being taken. With the system providing an easy medium of for leave applications, employees don’t have to go through unnecessary hassle.

Furthermore, the system is automated, and gives managers and employers instant notifications when someone applies for leave. Leave requests can be reviewed immediately and within minutes, they can be rejected or granted. This way, there are no last-minute requests for leave rolling in, with a first come first basis method ensuring that you have enough employees to tide you over during holiday season.

Unplanned leave is discouraged

If you want to get work done, you need to start scheduling work for your employees. This doesn’t just apply during holiday season, but for every business owner and manager. Fortunately, the employee vacation tracking system makes this much easier- as it normally is equipped with a Leave Calendar, which ensures that everyone’s scheduled leave is marked there. This then allows managers to schedule work accordingly.

Though this feature helps managers around the year, it becomes even more valuable during the holiday season. Firstly, it ensures that every employee’s leave status is already up which in turn allows their work schedule to be up as well. This doesn’t leave any room for unplanned leave, ensuring that those employees who aren’t scheduled to go on leave have set tasks which they must complete.

Leave balances can be accessed whenever the need arises

When granting leave, it is important to know which employee has taken an adequate amount of time off during the year and which isn’t. Fortunately, an employee vacation tracking system will have such records stored away, available to be pulled out whenever the need arises. Using such information, managers can approve leave requests accordingly – keeping in mind which employees are more deserving of being given time off during the holiday season.

Though choosing which employees must work during the holiday season is definitely a tough call, it is something which must be done for long-term benefits.
